This can create serious painful bite issues and, eventually, may\neven lead to additional tooth loss. Also, the loss of support for the lips\ncreates wrinkles and can make you look older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can Bone Loss Happen Around a Dental Implant?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the advantages of dental implants is that they\nprovide stimulation to the jawbone the way that natural teeth normally do, thus\npreventing bone loss from happening (a benefit that dentures and dental bridges\nsimply don\u2019t have). Unfortunately, that doesn\u2019t completely eliminate the risk.\nThe bone around an implant can still deteriorate for the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Gum Disease and Other Infections: <\/strong>Advanced\ngum disease and other forms of infection will attack the bone under the gum\nline and cause it to break down. Such conditions are often the result of poor\noral hygiene.<\/li><li><strong>Physical Injury:<\/strong> A jaw fracture around\nthe implant site or a dental implant that has been knocked loose can stop the\nbone from getting the stimulation it needs.<\/li><li><strong>Failed Osseointegration:<\/strong> Normally the\nimplant is meant to naturally fuse with the jawbone, but if this process fails\nfor any reason, the area around the implant will start to deteriorate instead.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, bone loss can be hard to detect at first, but\nif you notice signs that your implant has become loose (which obviously include\nthe implant wiggling in place or coming out altogether), you should contact\nyour dentist in Newbury Park as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can Bone Loss Be Treated?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If there\u2019s an infection that\u2019s causing the bone loss, it can\nsometimes be treated with antibiotics; in other cases the area will need to be\nthoroughly cleaned with dental instruments.
